Privacy Policy
The short version: We collect the minimum information needed to run the platform. We do not sell your data. We do not show you ads. Your anonymity is central to what we do.
1. Who This Applies To
This Privacy Policy applies to all users of ConfideFriends at confidefriends.com, operated by Loving Tree Technology LLC ("we," "us," "our"). By using ConfideFriends, you agree to the collection and use of information as described here.
2. What We Collect
Information you provide directly:
- Full name — required for account creation for identity and legal compliance. Never shown publicly.
- Email address — required for account creation and authentication
- Nickname — your anonymous display name, auto-generated
- Age — optional, used for audience filtering
- Location (city/state) — optional, used for audience filtering
- Posts and replies — the content you write on the platform
- Profile keywords and topics — optional, used for matching
Information collected automatically:
- Session tokens — to keep you logged in
- Post view counts — aggregate only, not tied to individual viewers
- Device type — browser or native app, for display purposes
- Basic usage data — to understand how the platform is used
- Subscription transaction data — if you purchase ConfideFriends Pro, Apple sends us a cryptographically signed receipt (a JWS token) confirming your subscription status. This contains an anonymized Apple transaction ID, product ID, purchase date, and expiration date. It contains no personal or financial information.
3. What We Do NOT Collect
- Your real name (we actively discourage providing it)
- Your phone number
- Your precise location or GPS data
- Credit card numbers, CVV codes, or billing addresses (subscription billing is handled entirely by Apple — we never see your payment details)
- Tracking pixels or advertising identifiers
- Data from third-party advertising networks
4. How We Use Your Information
- To operate the platform — authenticate you, display your posts, deliver notifications
- To run our AI safety system — your post content is processed by our AI to check for safety concerns and generate summaries. This processing happens at the time of posting.
- To match content to audiences — age and location filters you set determine who sees your posts
- To send notifications — email notifications when you receive replies or friend connections, if you have opted in
- To improve the platform — aggregate, anonymized usage patterns help us make ConfideFriends better
5. AI Processing of Your Content
When you post on ConfideFriends, your content is processed by Anthropic's Claude AI to:
- Generate a public-facing summary (the "Sleepless in Seattle" style teaser)
- Check for safety concerns and route appropriately
- Generate AI persona responses if you request them after posting
This processing is governed by Anthropic's privacy policy in addition to ours. We do not use your content to train AI models. Your original post text is stored in our database and is not shared publicly — only the AI-generated summary is shown in the feed.
AI conversation memory: To make confidant conversations feel continuous and personal, we maintain a rolling summary of your past AI conversations (an "AI memory") that is passed to the AI as context on future conversations. This memory is stored only on our servers, is never shown to other users, and is permanently deleted when you delete your account.
6. Who We Share Data With
We do not sell your data. We share data only as necessary to operate the platform:
- Anthropic — for AI processing of post content (subject to Anthropic's privacy policy)
- Apple — when you purchase a ConfideFriends Pro subscription, we verify the receipt with Apple's servers. Apple's privacy policy governs this interaction.
- Vacares — our hosting provider, who stores data on our servers
- Law enforcement — only if required by law or to prevent imminent harm
We do not share your data with advertisers, data brokers, or marketing companies.
7. Data Retention
- Posts — retained until you delete them or your account is closed
- Deleted posts — removed from public view immediately, purged from backups within 30 days
- Confidant AI conversations — retained until you close the thread or delete your account. Closed threads remain visible in your inbox but cannot be resumed.
- Subscription transaction records — retained for the life of your account plus 7 years for tax and financial compliance (required by U.S. regulations)
- Account data — retained while your account is active and for 90 days after closure
- Safety logs — retained for 2 years for legal compliance purposes
- Session tokens — expire after 30 days of inactivity
8. Your Rights
You have the right to:
- Access — request a copy of the data we hold about you
- Correction — correct inaccurate data
- Deletion — request deletion of your account and associated data
- Portability — receive your data in a portable format
- Opt-out of notifications — unsubscribe from emails at any time

9. GDPR (European Users)
If you are in the European Economic Area, you have additional rights under GDPR including the right to lodge a complaint with your local supervisory authority. Our legal basis for processing your data is your consent (provided when you create an account) and our legitimate interest in operating a safe platform.
10. CCPA (California Users)
California residents have the right to know what personal information we collect, request deletion of their data, and opt out of the sale of their data. We do not sell personal data. To exercise your CCPA rights, email privacy@confidefriends.com.
11. Minors
ConfideFriends is intended only for users 18 years of age or older. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18. If we become aware that a person under 18 has provided us with personal information, we will delete it immediately and terminate the associated account. 12. Security
We take reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect your data, including encrypted connections (HTTPS), hashed session tokens, and access controls on our database. No system is perfectly secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
13. Changes to This Policy
We may update this policy from time to time. We will notify registered users of material changes via email. The date at the top of this page reflects when it was last updated.
